Non-Lab Course Contact Hour Requirement
Non-lab courses (lecture, discussion, seminar) must meet for 12.5 hours per credit to fulfill university contact hour requirement. Alternate delivery classes, such as hybrid or online courses, are also required to fulfill these contact hour requirements. Faculty are responsible for determining the percentage of instructional time that should be moved from the classroom to online. For further information refer to the UMBC Credit Hour Policy.
1.5 Credit Course – must meet for a total of 18.75 hours of contact time.
2 Credit Course – must meet for a total of 25 hours of contact time.
3 Credit Course – must meet for a total of 37.5 hours of contact time.
4 Credit Course – must meet for a total of 50 hours of contact time.
Lab Course Contact Hour Requirement
Lab courses must meet for 25 hours per credit to fulfill university contact hour requirements.
1 Credit Lab Course – must meet for a total of 25 hours of contact time per session.
2 Credit Lab Course – must meet for a total of 50 hours of contact time per session.
3 Credit Lab Course – must meet for a total of 75 hours of contact time per session.
