Summer Prerequisite Courses

Session I Courses That are Prerequisites for Session II Courses
Many students take summer courses in session one that are prerequisites for courses offered in session two. In some cases, students will register for these sequential courses in session one and session two. For example, a student might register for CHEM 101 in Session I, and CHEM 102 in Session II. Because of the limited time between sessions, there is no automated process to identify students registered in both sessions who do NOT meet the prerequisite requirements in Session I for courses they take in Session II.

If you are teaching a summer course that has a prerequisite, please ensure that the prerequisite requirements are clearly stated in your course syllabus, and, if possible, post your course syllabus online before classes begin. At the first class meeting, please announce that students must meet ALL prerequisite requirements (including the minimum grade criteria) for a course to count toward degree completion. If some students do not meet the prerequisite requirements, they will need to drop their course. You can refer students to our website for more detailed information about prerequisites for summer courses.
